Aftercare
Good healing begins before you leave the studio.
Simple, practical guidance for the first two weeks, including healing while travelling.
The first 24 hours
Follow the dressing instructions given by your artist. Wash your hands before touching the tattoo. When the covering is removed, clean the area gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel and allow the skin to air before applying a very thin layer of the recommended moisturiser.
Days two to fourteen
Wash the tattoo gently once or twice each day. Keep it lightly moisturised, never wet or glossy. Flaking and mild itching are normal. Do not scratch, pick or shave the area. Avoid swimming, baths, saunas, intense exercise that rubs the tattoo, and direct sun until the surface has settled.
Healing while travelling
Choose loose, clean clothing and keep the tattoo away from backpack straps, tight waistbands and other friction. On a flight, bring your aftercare product in a travel-size container and avoid wrapping the tattoo again unless your artist has specifically instructed you to do so. Hotel towels may be heavily fragranced; use clean paper towels to pat the area dry. Beaches, pools and strong tropical sun should wait until the tattoo has healed. Once the skin is fully closed, use high-SPF sun protection.
When to contact us
Some warmth and tenderness are expected early on. Contact the studio if redness continues to expand, pain increases rather than settles, or you notice unusual discharge. For severe symptoms or fever, seek medical care promptly.
